Some things are not available on the NHS. A local Private GP (known to me from my training years) is set up to do circumcisions, minor surgery, Gardasil, BCG vaccination against TB.

Always check with your insurer. They will not usually cover illnesses that you had before you joined the scheme. Also, they will not be happy to pay for you to see specialists for minor illnesses (even though you yourself might not think it's a minor illness!). They will, of course, sound reassuring. But they will ask you to see your GP for consideration of referral. The GP will be aware of the kinds of problems that will or won't be accepted by insurance companies in general.
Generally, you should have choice of consultant, despite certain insurance companies pushing you to see 'cheaper' consultants.
There will be a claim form to fill in AFTER you see the specialist, for which all GPs are entitled to charge £30 for, as it is a private service. This is because it is a responsibility to sign such a form, and there are often problems arising from claims.
