Test Results

Blood tests are carried out at St. Helier Hospital - walk-in service. (or Sutton Hospital, where you can park free on the nearby road, if you avoid 10-11am & 2-3pm).
Please take your request form to the pathology laboratory between 9.00am and 4.00pm on any weekday. An appointment is only required for children, where a special nurse needs to be arranged to carefully take the blood. We can prescribe cream to put on beforehand to numb the skin.
If the doctor indicates that it should be a fasting test, it is important to follow instructions, otherwise the results can be misleading, and even make us think you might have diabetes!

X-rays are done between 9.00am and 4.00pm on weekdays at St. Helier Hospital (or Sutton Hospital). Please present your X-ray request form at the X-ray department reception. X-ray results take about 2 whole weeks before we are able to give a result: we would only ring you if there was a serious problem: not if there is simple wear and tear of joints.

Urine samples for hospital laboratory analysis can be taken directly to St. Helier Hospital pathology department carefully sealed in the request form. Or our courier can deliver it to the lab: but you must hand it in before 10.15am. It is imperative that they are clean mid-stream samples, following a bath/shower, otherwise contaminants like discharge can spoil the test.

ECG  No request form needed. Just walk-in at these times:
Mondays    8:30-12       &   13:30 - 16h     Old Court House Surgery map
Thursday    8:30-12       &   13:30 - 16h    Shotfield Health Centre,Mint House map
This is a great service, and we get a report that is looked at by a cardiologist within a day or two.

Ultrasound Scans
The PCT (health authority) have bought a contract with InHealth to organise these scans for you, and also gastroscopy/colonoscopy.
It is already paid for by the PCT, and we are encouraged to use them where possible. They are, in most cases, more rapid than the local hospitals.
You may have to travel to RobinHoodClinic or Mayday Hospital. InHealth will contact you by phone to arrange a suitable appointment.
Ultrasounds are also done at Faccini house map.

Test Results
Because of the huge volume of results we only inform patients of test results if there is a particular problem. Unless it is a minor problem like a high Cholesterol, when we would discuss it next time you came to see us. Understanding results

However, if you are worried or if your symptoms persist, then please phone on the enquiry line between 11.30am and 1pm Monday to Friday. You may ask for your cholesterol level if you wish.

Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results..
